I-70 eastbound reopens in Wheat Ridge after fatal semi-truck crash

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 were closed for several hours in Wheat Ridge Saturday morning after a fatal rollover crash involving a semi truck.

The crash happened on I-70 at about 2:40 a.m. between Ward Road and Kipling Street, according to Wheat Ridge police. In addition to the semi truck, four other vehicles were involved in the crash, which left the truck and its trailer smashed up on the highway.

Wheat Ridge Police Department officers did not say how many fatalities occurred as a result of the crash, or which driver was killed. Three additional people were hospitalized with varying degrees of injuries, police said.

Traffic is being diverted to Ward Road as police investigate the crash. The highway was reopened around 2:45 p.m., police said.

Colorado Department of Transportation traffic cameras showed heavy traffic leading to the crash site.
