Avalanche keep quiet on Cale Makar’s availability ahead of Game 3

LAS VEGAS – Will Cale Makar play in Game 3? The answer, as of Sunday afternoon, is neither a yes nor a no.

The best Jared Bednar would give the media is a maybe.

“You’ll have to wait and see,” Bednar said when asked if his star defenseman would play on Sunday.

Makar has yet to dress in this series and is believed to be dealing with multiple issues, including something with his right shoulder. He skated ahead of the first two games in the series but was not able to dress. With the Avalanche down 2-0 heading into a crucial Game 3 with the Golden Knights, his presence could provide a massive boost.

Bednar was also unwilling to provide any other information on his lineup, including who his starting goaltender will be. Scott Wedgewood started the first two games but Bednar has said previously he would go to Mackenzie Blackwood if he feels it’s necessary. Josh Manson, who left Game 2 briefly after a nasty collision with the boards, is “feeling good,” according to Bednar.

The Avalanche have started both games with the same lines but Bednar has been forced to adjust in each game, as Colorado’s top six have failed to generate a lot of offense.

“I’m not disappointed with some of the chances that we’ve produced,” Bednar said. “I’ve got an idea for our lineup for tonight that we’re going to start with and hopefully it makes it the whole game.”

Game 3 between these teams starts at 6 p.m.
