Serious crash closes eastbound I-70 for four hours in western Colorado
Eastbound I-70 in western Colorado was closed for approximately four hours on June 1 following a serious single-vehicle crash.
According to a report from Colorado State Patrol, the crash took place at about 9:46 a.m., involving a Nissan Pathfinder traveling eastbound lanes around mile marker 45, which is near Palisade. The preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was traveling in the right lane when it started to drift to the right side of the road. This appears to have been followed by an overcorrection by the driver, which caused the vehicle to rotate left before striking the metal guardrail and landing on its side in the median.
The driver of the vehicle, a 34-year-old male, was in critical condition at last report. Meanwhile, the passenger in the vehicle, a 47-year-old male from Florida, sustained at least one serious bodily injury.
The road reopened at about 1:44 p.m.
