Is it April Fool’s Day? Almost had to check because on a record-breaking year of low snowpack, a humble southern Colorado ski area in southern Colorado is set to offer skiing and snowboarding in June.

According to a report from Powder, Cuchara Mountain Park will be hosting at least a couple days of hike-to skiing on June 12 and June 13, complete with a terrain park competition. It’s the result of snow storage efforts with the ski area sharing a small pile of tarped-off snow on their Facebook page that’s presumably for the event.

The event is being billed as the ‘Cuchara Mountain Park Summer Slush Slab,’ with a $20 entry fee for the Saturday competition and a $10 hiking fee for Friday’s festivities. Weather-dependent, the festivities could extend into Sunday, as well.

After more than two decades on pause, Cuchara Mountain Park was finally able to get its Chair 4 lift spinning this season, offering lift-served skiing near La Veta, Trinidad, and Walsenburg near Colorado’s border with New Mexico.

While it’s likely skiing and snowboarding will only be offered the single upcoming weekend at Cuchara Mountain Park, this summer, guests of the mountain park will find disc golf, miniature golf, hiking, mountain biking, and stargazing opportunities.

Believe it or not, Cuchara won’t be the only place that will be offering skiing in June. Copper Mountain’s summer hike-to terrain park is set to open on June 5.
