Man rescued in Wheat Ridge trench after nearly 24 hours trapped

A man was rescued Saturday after being trapped for nearly 24 hours at the bottom of a 15-foot trench in a construction zone, authorities said.

A passerby discovered the man near North Crossing Drive and Clear Creek Drive in Wheat Ridge on Saturday night and contacted emergency services.

West Metro Fire Rescue crews responded at 9:30 p.m. and found the injured man stuck in a narrow hole, lying in mud and water. Officials said it is believed he had been trapped for close to a day and had been unable to get anyone’s attention.
