Colorado’s largest water park amid largest development since 1986, set to open new area soon
Making the trip to Water World in Denver-area Federal Heights is somewhat of a rite of passage for Coloradans. Spanning 70 acres, this wet and wild metro escape is sure to provide a memorable time for all ages, home to dozens of beloved attractions.
According to reporting from The Gazette’s Jen Mulson, the much-anticipated opening of the park’s largest new development since 1986 is on track to take place this month.
Dubbed ‘Summit Canyon,’ the new area will encompass about 2.5 acres with the main feature being the 60-foot-tall Lookout Tower that will become the highest point of the park. The massive tower will be used to access four new waterslides – two tubes and two body flumes.
One of the new slides will be the Denver metro’s first ‘drop-capsule’ slide, which involves riders entering an enclosed capsule before the drop-out of a floor releases them into the rest of the slide. In addition to the four new slides, Summit Canyon will include a large seating area for 700 guests, a pool with an obstacle course, another one with an in-water basketball court, and more.
Summit Canyon will be found in the same general area of the now-closed Calypso Cove part of the park.
An official date for the opening of Summit Canyon isn’t mentioned on the Water World website, with those curious told to “stay tuned for an opening date this season.”
