Rod Stewart postpones Red Rocks shows following vocal strain, World Cup criticism

British singer/songwriter Rod Stewart postponed his scheduled Red Rocks performances this week following a vocal strain, venue officials said.

In a statement, Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre officials said that Stewart’s Monday and Tuesday performances would be postponed until September after a doctor prescribed him “strict vocal rest.”

“Evaluation revealed significant inflammation and strain of the vocal folds, making it impossible for him to safely perform without the risk of further injury and potential long-term damage to his voice,” the statement posted on the park’s website and social media accounts reads.

The postponement marks the second interrupted tour stop in just a handful of days for the 81-year-old, critically-acclaimed performing artist. On Friday, he canceled his show in Chula Vista, Calif., due to laryngitis, according to a statement posted to the venue’s social media accounts.

The next day, Stewart posted a video to his Instagram account, appearing to show himself and others flying to Boston to watch Scotland play in the World Cup against Haiti.

“No Scotland, no party,” the three sing at the end of the clip.

Those in the comments section were not pleased with the timing of the post.

“What’s hard to accept is seeing you apparently celebrating on a plane with friends less than 24 hours after thousands of people were sent home disappointed,” one user wrote.

“Lost a little respect for you canceling your concert the night before, disappointing a stadium full of people… hard to believe you really had laryngitis. You sound like you have a voice to me,” another said.

The Red Rocks shows have been rescheduled to Sept. 2 and 3 of 2027, the Red Rocks statement said. Tickets for this week’s shows will be valid for the new dates.
