New wildfire prompts mandatory evacuations, highway closure in Colorado
On the morning of June 18, an evacuation notice was sent out to some residents of Fremont County due to a wildfire – specifically, those on County Road F45.
Per a 10:44 a.m. update, fire crews were working to control a wildfire that popped up near State Highway 115 in the area of Mile Marker 20 and the aforementioned county road – just north of the town of Penrose. At last report, the fire was relatively small – estimated to be about 50 yards by 50 yards in size (about half an acre), but it was enough to shut down State Highway 115 in the area of the blaze until further notice.
Video shows that aerial support has been assisting in stopping the blaze.
Information about the fire is limited at this time. While the National Weather Service hasn’t activated a Red Flag Warning in this part of the state, the area is under a ‘Fire Weather Watch.’
Updates about the fire will likely be posted here. As far as the status of Highway 115 goes, find that on the Colorado Department of Transportation CoTrip.com website.
