Mandatory evacuations near Leadville as Willow Fire grows to over 1K acres
Areas west of Leadville were placed under a mandatory evacuation order as the Willow Fire grew over 1,000 acres Sunday evening.
An immediate mandatory evacuation order has been issued for several county roads — 4, 9, 8D, 5A, 48 and 99 — was well as all campgrounds around Turquoise Lake and Hagerman Pass, according to the Lake County Office of Emergency Management.
The fire, which was first estimated as 3-5 acres large just after 4 p.m. Sunday, quickly grew in its estimated size. As of 6:15 p.m., Watch Duty estimated it to have grown to over 1,100 acres.
Two shelters have been set up to help those affected by the fire, according to the office. Large animals may be brought to the Lake County Rodeo Grounds at 231 McWethy Drive in Leadville. Displaced residents can report to the Family Assistance Center at Colorado Mountain College.
