Denver Weather: Hot, dry Monday with critical fire conditions & air quality alert

Denver can expect smoky skies, with patches of sun peeking through and high fire danger on Monday.

The National Weather Service in Boulder has issued an air quality alert for multiple pollutants, including wildfire smoke, from 4 p.m. on Sunday to 4 p.m. on Monday for counties along the Front Range.

“Critical fire weather conditions are expected again Tuesday across portions of the mountains, higher valleys, and southern foothills,” the weather service said in a post on X. “Southwest winds gusting to 40 mph and RH as low as 10% will create dangerous fire conditions.”

Meteorologists said the high in Denver is expected to reach a high of 89 on Monday. That’s only about 1 degree hotter than the normal high for June 29 in Denver, according to weather service archive data.

The weather service said to expect breezy, west winds between 5-15 mph, with wind gusts reaching up to 25 mph, becoming southeast by late morning.

There will be areas of heavy smoke on Monday evening with a low of 54 degrees. Smoke will continue into Tuesday morning until around 8 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Fire conditions are expected again on Tuesday, with the National Weather Service warning that wind gusts up to 40mph and humidity as low as 10% will create dangerous fire conditions.

The week ahead is expected to be hot, with temperatures reaching into the low 90s through Friday.
