State wildlife area closed amid fire burning in southwest Colorado

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has temporarily closed the Lone Dome State Wildlife Area amid the ongoing Ferris Fire that’s burning in southwest Colorado.

As of June 30, the Ferris Fire has scorched about 19,000 acres northwest of Dolores with no containment. Lone Dome State Wildlife Area is located along the southern edge of the U.S. Forest Service closure that’s resulted from the blaze. Given road closures in the area, the state wildlife area has become inaccessible.

Additionally, the Bayfield Lions Club Shooting Range has also been closed given La Plata County’s implementation of stage two fire restrictions.

Both closures are set to remain in place until conditions are safer.
