Golden Police Department names new chief
The Golden Police Department has a new chief.
The city announced Tuesday that Michele Wagner, a 20-year veteran of the Lakewood Police Department, will take the chief post effective July 13.
Wagner has over 25 years of law enforcement experience, according to Golden officials.
Wagner’s selection followed a comprehensive national search and community engagement process. She will replace retiring Police Chief Joe Harvey.
In Lakewood, Wagner served in a wide range of roles, including sergeant, and currently serves as chief investigator for the 1st Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
“I am honored to join the City of Golden and serve this community as Chief of Police,” Wagner said in a news release. “Golden is known for its strong sense of community, engaged residents, and commitment to excellence. I look forward to working alongside the dedicated men and women of the Golden Police Department and building upon the department’s strong foundation to ensure Golden remains a safe and welcoming place for all.”
In an X post, Lakewood police congratulated Wagner and said she is known for her commitment to community partnerships, transparency, accountability, collaborative leadership and community-centered policing.
Wagner is the 77th member of the Lakewood police department to go on to become a chief or sheriff, according to Lakewood police.
