Lightning strikes golfer, sparks brush fire at Lakewood golf course
LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A golfer was injured after being struck by lightning Tuesday evening, and the same storm ignited a brush fire at Fox Hollow Golf Course near Lakewood.
West Metro Fire Rescue responded to the course along Morrison Road after receiving reports of a slow-moving grass and brush fire. When crews arrived, they found flames burning in rough terrain near the sixth hole.
Initially, fire crews estimated the fire to be about an acre, but it eventually burned approximately two acres before firefighters stopped its forward progress. No homes or other structures were threatened.
West Metro Fire Rescue confirmed one person was struck by lightning near the sixth hole and was transported to a local hospital with injuries. The extent of the person’s injuries has not been released.
