Denver weather: Storms possible for Fourth of July weekend

While the forecast is mostly clear for Independence Day weekend, those looking to celebrate later on Saturday may see their fireworks doused out.

Maybe that’s for the best.

Friday’s forecast is going to be much the same as it has been: typical summer weather, with a high in the low 90s, according to the National Weather Service. Skies will remain hazy with residual smoke from the many wildfires happening now in Colorado, and an air quality alert has been issued for the entire Denver metro area and many northern areas of Colorado.

For Saturday, the Fourth of July, conditions for most of the day will be clear and warm, with a high around 90. It will be slightly breezy, with some gusts as much as 16 mph possible. There’s also 20% chance of thunderstorms after 3 p.m.

9NEWS meteorologist Chris Bianchi said via X that models are showing possible storms in the Denver area, as well as the eastern plains.

“I’d plan on bringing rain gear just in case if you’re going to Rockies/Red Rocks/Ed Sheeran tomorrow night,” he wrote on X.

Sunday will be much the same as Saturday. A high near 93, with a 30% chance of storms after noon. Wind gusts are expected to pick up slight to between 5 and 10 mph, with some gusts as high as 20 mph, according to NWS.
