Colorado trooper hit by suspected drunk driver

Colorado State Patrol said a trooper and two others were injured on I-70 near Watkins when an SUV hit the trooper’s vehicle during a traffic stop.

WATKINS, Colo. — A Colorado State Patrol trooper and two other people were injured in a crash on Interstate 70 near Watkins early Saturday morning.

Just before 1 a.m., CSP said the trooper tried to pull over a vehicle that was in the left lane and not passing. That car stopped in the left lane, so the trooper pulled behind them and told the driver to move to the shoulder.

While they were coming to a stop, the trooper’s vehicle was hit by an SUV that was traveling at a high rate of speed, which pushed the trooper’s vehicle into the car that was initially pulled over, according to CSP.

The trooper and two people in the initial car that was pulled over, a 44-year-old woman and a teenage girl from Aurora, were taking to the hospital.
