More containment gained as wildfire grows to over 90,000 acres

Although several of the wildfires burning across Colorado grew over the past day, firefighters have continued to be able to gain some containment on the blazes. Various evacuations and pre-evacuations across the state remain in place.

Here’s a look at what’s on fire around the Centennial State:

1. Snyder Fire (which merged with Jones Fire and overtook Knowles and Gore fires)

Location: West of Fruita

Size: 30,202 acres

Containment: 95 percent

Update: Acreage and containment remain the same for this fire since Sunday.

2. Gold Mountain Fire

Location: North of Ouray

Size: 27,698 acres

Containment: 3 percent

Update: Although this fire did continue to grow, firefighters were able to gain some containment due to milder winds and improved conditions.

3. Ferris Fire (which merged with Doe Canyon and Far Draw fires)

Location: Roughly 30 miles northwest of Dolores

Size: 47,780 acres

Containment: 21 percent

Update: This fire has grown as well, but containment has also increased from seven percent yesterday. However, the uncontained parts of the fire still have “tremendous potential for growth,” according to the update posted on Monday morning.

4. Willow Fire

Location: West of Leadville near Turquoise Lake

Size: 4,143 acres

Containment: 1 percent

Update: This fire has grown about 1,000 acres since yesterday. More evacuation and pre-evacuations were announced yesterday as well.

5. Aspen Acres Fire

Location: Custer County/Pueblo counties

Size: 91,523 acres

Containment: 12 percent

Update: Gusty and erratic winds on Sunday increased fire behavior, with firefighters battling to protect home and property toward the Greenwood area and Wetmore. Firefighters were able to establish fire line around Greenwood, and are working to finish dozer line south of Wetmore.
