Denver weather: A potentially rainy afternoon as temperatures skyrocket

Temperatures continue to climb in Denver this summer, and an afternoon rain shower may be the only way to cool them down.

The National Weather Service said to expect a high of around 95 on Tuesday, with a 40% chance of afternoon showers.

Those rain showers, expected after 3 p.m., are expected across much of Colorado. The Cheyenne Ridge has an isolated severe thunderstorm threat.

Smoke will continue to remain visible as wind speeds pick up across the state and blow the coverage over to urban areas.

The weather service is wary of dry thunderstorms in the mountains, which could potentially spark new wildfires.

Today marks the first of a three-day stretch of moisture for the Denver area. Forecasters expect Wednesday and Thursday to provide more storms than today.

Colorado is staring down a heat wave, due to arrive this weekend with temperatures nearing the 100s.

Tonight, expect a low of around 62 degrees with precipitation ending around 8 p.m.
