Four Colorado hot springs rank among ‘top 10’ in the U.S.

Soaking in hot springs provides many benefits, including boosting blood circulation, reducing stress and alleviating skin conditions. In Colorado, a trip to a hot spring is often accompanied by views of some of the state’s most stunning mountains and scenery.

USA Today 10Best recently published its list of the best hot springs in the country, and four different hot springs in Colorado made the list.

USA Today 10Best is a readers’ choice awards program that spotlights the best in the nation’s destinations, food and drink, hotels and things to do. An expert panel nominates their top choices in each category and readers vote to pick the 10 winners.

Durango Hot Springs Resort & Spa took third place, ranking the highest among Colorado spots. Located in Durango near the San Juan Mountains, this hot springs includes more than 40 water amenities, including 32 mineral soaking pools, cold plunges, Japanese-inspired cedar soaking tubs and a swimming pool, according to USA Today. USA Today also said that the hot springs is known for having naturally mineral-rich waters that have a lack of sulfuric odor and enhanced oxygen infusion technology.

Not far behind Durango Hot Springs was Iron Mountain Hot Springs, ranking fourth on the list. Found in Glenwood Springs, this hot springs resort is tucked into the Colorado River’s banks and features 35 soaking pools. There’s an adults-only WorldSprings area which has pools inspired by geothermal waters in Japan, Iceland, Turkey and more locations.

Glenwood Hot Springs Resort ended up in fifth place. Located in Glenwood Springs, this resort is home to the world’s largest outdoor mineral hot springs pool, which includes a diving board and swimming lanes. There are also waterslides, a splash pad, mini waterslides and a zero-depth, shaded pool for younger guests. Visitors can also check out the hot therapy pool and Yampah Mineral Baths (with five soaking pools of different temperatures).

The final hot springs in Colorado to make the list was The Springs Resort in Pagosa Springs. This hot springs offers 24-hour access to about 50 mineral pools with temperatures ranging from “piping-hot to nearly freezing.” Those staying at the resort will get complimentary access to wellness activities like aqua yoga and balancing sound immersion. Guests can also take a daring cold plunge in the San Juan River, which flows only steps away from the hot pools.

The Murrieta Hot Springs Resort in Murrieta, California took first place as the best hot springs in the U.S.
