Denver Pioneers hockey puts Buckberger, Anderson on elite academics list | Colorado Sunshine

Where good news shines

The best athletics program in Colorado continues to flourish.

University of Denver hockey placed two players on the CSC Men’s Division I Academic All-America At-Large Team, the school said Wednesday.

Senior captain Kent Anderson and alternate captain Boston Buckberger were both named to the Academic All-America first team. It’s the first time the DU program has had multiple players chosen to the top squad in the same year.

Overall, Anderson and Buckberger become just the Pioneers’ second and third first-team members. The pair joins Tyler Ruegsegger, a 2010 selection.

Denver has won three of the past five national championships.

Anderson made the list for the second time. The 96th team captain at DU, Anderson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business finance in June and finished his undergraduate studies with a 3.94 grade-point average.

Buckberger, who is also a defenseman, carries a 3.95 GPA through his junior season and is working toward his bachelor’s degree in accounting. The Columbus Blue Jackets draftee continues to take classes and is on track to earn his degree in the next year.
