Two people walk away from small-plane crash in remote Colorado

Two people walked away from a small plane crash on Friday afternoon in a remote area between the towns of Whitewater and Gateway.

According to a Facebook post from the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), deputies were dispatched at about 4:40 p.m. to a report of a downed small-engine aircraft. The sheriff’s office said that early information indicated that the crash was located south and east of Highway 141 between Whitewater and Gateway.

The pilot was able to self-report that they and the adult passenger both walked away from the crash site. The pilot and passenger were both transported by CareFlight of the Rockies to an area hospital.

The cause of the crash is unknown. The Federal Aviation Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board and possibly other federal entities are in charge of the aircraft crash investigation.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
