Water World evacuated due to false bomb threat Saturday

Water World in Federal Heights was evacuated Saturday due to a false bomb threat.

A spokesperson for Water World said the park received the “unverified threat” via a phone call. The spokesperson said the park was safely evacuated by 12:10 p.m.

Federal Heights police said the call came in before noon. Commander Jason Schlenker said the caller had a robotic voice and alluded that there was a bomb in the park, 9NEWS reported.

Police are now working to identify the caller.

By about 4 p.m. that the park was secure and that there was no credible threat found in the park, police said. The park will be open as usual on Sunday.

Police said about 4,000 park patrons were evacuated within 30 to 45 minutes.

People at the park told The Denver Gazette that an announcement came over the loudspeakers asking attendees to leave the park calmly and safely. The message said an emergency was reported and that the park was closing.

Federal Heights police said in a statement on Facebook that the department responded to a “potential threat” at Water World.

Attendees said the park was particularly crowded Saturday due to the hot weather. Guests told 9NEWS that the evacuation was chaotic but orderly and that some patrons even left behind their belongings.

Water World said anyone who left behind belongings can return to the park to collect them.
