Denver Public Library ends laptop, hot spot lending program

Denver Public Library is ending a program that allowed people to check out Chromebooks and Wi-Fi hot spots to use at home.

The circulating technology program will end July 30. The library said budget cuts forced the decision.

“The program was pretty expensive to maintain, and we couldn’t keep up with demand either. Replacement costs on lost items, the contract that we had with our service provider was expensive,” said Olivia Gallegos, communications manager for Denver Public Library.

Gallegos said the library currently has about 300 devices available through the program. She said about 800 people are on the waitlist.
