Mandatory wildfire evacuations lifted in west Fort Collins area
A wildfire briefly prompted mandatory evacuations in Western Fort Collins Monday before authorities lifted all evacuation orders.
Larimer County emergency officials issued a mandatory evacuation order shortly after 1 p.m. for residents south of Horsetooth Road and west of Taft Hill Road. Residents were told to leave immediately for their safety as crews responded to the wildfire.
At the same time, officials issued a voluntary evacuation order for an area bounded by West Prospect Road to the north, West Horsetooth Road to the south, South Taft Hill Road to the east and South Overland Trail to the west. Residents in that area were advised to gather essential items and prepare to leave if conditions worsened.
About 15 minutes later, officials announced that the voluntary evacuation area had been cleared and the advisory was lifted. By 1:35 p.m., authorities also lifted the mandatory evacuation order.
Officials thanked residents for their cooperation and directed the public to NoCoAlert for maps and emergency information. No information on the size of the fire, containment efforts or any injuries was immediately available.
The cause of the wildfire was not immediately known.
