1 dead, another hospitalized after 3-vehicle crash east of Nederland Wednesday

One person died, and another was hospitalized after three vehicles crashed on Highway 119 east of Nederland on Wednesday evening, officials said.

Initial indications showed that a pickup truck, an SUV and a minivan collided with one another, according to a Wednesday night news release from Colorado State Patrol. On Thursday, CSP said a Dodge Ram pulling a trailer was traveling eastbound on Highway 119 when its brakes failed, causing it to lose control.

The trailer then rotated into the westbound traffic lanes and collided with a Toyota Sienna and an Ioniq. The trailer and the Ram then rolled, while the Sienna and Ioniq were pushed off the road.

The driver of the Ram was uninjured, while the driver of the Sienna was hospitalized with moderate injuries. The driver of the Ioniq, a 37-year-old woman from Nederland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The roadway was closed for five miles between Nederland and Boulder as officials investigated the crash, according to the release. The road was reopened around 4:15 a.m. on Thursday.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Any witnesses to the crash or those who have information about the incident are asked to contact CSP dispatch at 303-239-4501 with case reference number VC260232.
