Kickin’ It with Kiz: Why Bo Nix is not worthy of top-10 ranking among NFL QBs
Name 10 NFL quarterbacks better than Bo Nix.
— Carlos, the elk-hunter
Kiz: Broncos Country has got its orange knickers in a knot, because a recent ESPN survey of league execs, coaches and scouts failed to list Nix among the top 16 of league QBs. OK, there’s one important skillset where Nix definitely ranks in the top 10. He’s a gamer. When staring at a deficit in the fourth quarterback, the knuckleheads here at Kickin’ It Headquarters would take him over Justin Herbert of the Chargers every day of the week and twice on Sunday. But since you asked, here are 10 NFL quarterbacks I’d rank above Nix: Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, Matthew Stafford, Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen are my unquestioned top five, with no argument allowed. The next five? Go ahead and make your case for Nix against Jared Goff, Jalen Hurts, Baker Mayfield, Jayden Daniels and Sam Darnold (who would’ve kicked Nix’s rear in the Super Bowl).
Nix beat many of the quarterbacks ahead of him on the list.
— Toni, Atlanta
Kiz: I have a deep appreciation for the cool head on Nix’s shoulders and the rubber he peels to wheel out of trouble (provided he doesn’t blow a tire). But his arm talent? Sorry, Broncomaniacs. For me, Nix is too dinky-dunky to be considered a rock-solid top-10 quarterback. Maybe the addition of receiver Jaylen Waddle will stretch the field and improve Nix’s average yards per attempt of 6.4, which ranked 28th in the league during the 2025 season. With the help of new play-caller Davis Webb, If Nix can boost that average to 7.5, me and everybody else will happily rank him in the top 10.
In the World Cup final, I say: Go Spain!
— Seth, friend of futbol
Kiz: One after another, teams have fallen down and groveled at the feet of the great Lionel Messi. Winning this World Cup seems to be his destiny. And that would be a storybook ending to a tournament so compelling it has won converts in a country where the NFL is religion. But I said it at the start of this competition, and will say it again: Spain has the strongest technical skill, the strongest personality and the strongest overall team in the field. My prediction for the final: Spain 3, Messi 1.
The development of American soccer players is hindered in the USA by expanding the field at too early an age. My daughter played in Spain and the small-sided games at a young age were impressive to watch. Much better footwork.
— T-Boz, life’s a beach
Kiz: In the futbol world, we lack for nothing in athleticism. It’s our ball skills that need serious work. And the problem starts from a painfully young age. There’s way too much one-on-one dribbling, mindless boomball and aimless chasing on youth soccer fields across America. It would be more fun to play and watch if soccer in the USA was limited to small fields with no more than seven players to a side through age 12.
And today’s parting shot asks: Could Nikola Jokic get as fed up as the rest of us with the Nuggets’ inability to surround him with a championship-worthy cast?
I think Joker is tired of Nuggets management. He’s gone.
— David, keeping it real
