News Nuggets: Paddle boats, first responders and lane closures

The newest Denver Parks and Recreation Adventure Hub rental kiosk is now open in City Park, offering equipment rentals of kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, pedal boats, beach cruiser bikes and two- to six-person surreys. 

Open spring, summer and fall, the new kiosk joins the existing Adventure Hub location at Washington Park.

The City Park Adventure Hub is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Washington Park location is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

A night out to honor first responders

Downtown Denver’s Fourth Annual National Night Out is a free, family-friendly community event that brings residents together with police, firefighters and other emergency personnel to promote stronger relationships between communities and public safety agencies.

This year, the event will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at Skyline Park, 1701 Arapahoe St. Those attending will find food, music, games, nonalcoholic beverages, a caricature artist and a photo booth.

Meet city leaders such as Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, Police Chief Ron Thomas, Fire Chief Desmond Fulton, RTD Chief of Police Steve Matingano and members of the Denver City Council. There will be fire trucks, ambulances, mounted police, informational booths, raffle prizes, music, artists, giveaways and much more.

Resurfacing operations are set for Monday through Aug. 14 on Monaco Street Parkway from Alameda to Mississippi avenues, according to the Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure. Travelers should expect lane closures between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. while milling and paving operations are underway.

Additionally, DOTI will be making improvements to travel along Buchtel Boulevard to enhance safety, traffic flow and pedestrian connectivity to businesses, schools and transit stops. According to DOTI, workers will be adding protected bike lanes on Buchtel, sidewalks and pedestrian crossings, and reconstructing several intersections.

Full closures of sections of Buchtel Boulevard will be in place during construction, starting with the stretch from University Boulevard to St. Paul Street, with detours posted to Evans Avenue and nearby side streets. Closure days run through Saturday.

Local access to driveways and businesses will be maintained.

Single-lane closures, traffic shifts and delays can be expected from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday.
