As firefighters work to gain containment on the 100,000-acre Aspen Acres fire, more evacuation orders have been lifted in Custer County.

On Monday morning, officials announced that Zone C3’s mandatory evacuation order has been rolled back to a pre-evacuation order, and Zone C4 is now open for reentry. Reentry cards are needed for anyone attempting to return to their properties in zones C3 and C4.

Zones C3 and C4 are located along the western edge of the Aspen Acres fire.

Reentry cards can be obtained at the Disaster Assistance Center at Lange Hall, 310 S. Third St., in Westcliffe.

Evacuees are encouraged to get their cards ahead of time so they can gain reentry as soon as evacuations in their zone are lifted, the Custer County Sheriff’s Office said.

The fire has burned 100,756 acres, with 61% containment as of Monday afternoon.

A community meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Craver Middle School in Colorado City.

Weekend update

Authorities changed Evacuation Zone C-9B to pre-evacuation status Saturday, allowing more residents displaced by the Aspen Acres fire to return home.

The area is on the northwest side of the fire, where the small locality of Fairview rests inside the San Isabel National Forest. The zone is also just north of Bishop Castle.

Residents with the yellow repopulation card will be able to gain reentry via Colorado 165 and Colorado 96, the Custer County Sheriff’s Office announced.
