Denver police make arrest in fatal shooting
Denver police on Tuesday announced an arrest has been made in connection with a shooting a week prior.
Police said on social media that the shooting was reported at 9:11 p.m. on July 13 in the 3800 block of West Arizona Avenue. The victim, James Ruiz, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Denver Police Department investigators determined that Ruiz was attempting to break up a fight between his girlfriend and another woman when he was shot. Police said 24-year-old Fernando Sebastian Chavez allegedly shot Ruiz and fled the scene.
Chavez was arrested Monday night and booked into the Downtown Detention Center. He faces a charge of first-degree murder and is being held without bond.
