The long-awaited rain to cool down Colorado could be arriving Tuesday.

The National Weather Service said to expect a high of around 94 degrees with rain possible this afternoon into the evening.

After a long stretch of dry, scorching hot days in Denver and much of Colorado, rainfall would be very well received. The weather service gives Denver a 20% chance after 3 p.m. and a 40% chance of rain late into tonight.

These potential storms aren’t exclusive to Denver. Much of Colorado, especially higher elevation areas, could see precipitation this afternoon.

Storms will persist for much of this week, cooling the area significantly and even posing flash flood danger.

“Storm coverage and intensity increases through Wednesday and Thursday as monsoonal moisture moves into the region,” the weather service said. “Storms from today onward will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall, and some threat of flash flooding.”

Tonight, expect a low of around 69 degrees, with potential rainfall lasting until 3 a.m.
