The City of Denver is preparing its next climate action plan. Updated every five years, this document will direct the city’s climate priorities through 2031.

City officials are asking for community feedback through an online survey.

The updated Climate Action Plan will outline how Denver will continue reducing pollution, expanding clean energy and preparing neighborhoods for growing climate risks such as extreme heat and drought. 

“Community input will help ensure that our climate work focuses on what matters most and supports every neighborhood in becoming healthier, more affordable and more resilient,” Elizabeth Babcock, who oversees the Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency, said in a media advisory.  

The survey is available online through Aug. 14 – in English and Spanish – at www.denvergov.org/climateplan.

Shoot hoops with local police

The Denver Police Youth Program has announced it will host Hoop 4 Safety, a basketball camp for kids ages 8 to 16, offering a chance to hit the court and connect with Denver Police Department officers.

Focused on building basketball skills as well as teamwork skills, the half-day camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 26 at the Metropolitan State University Auraria Event Center, 1255 10th St. Plaza.

A free lunch will be provided as well as transportation. DPD buses, driven by DPD officers, will be provided to pick kids up from the following Denver Boys and Girls Clubs:

• 4397 Crown Blvd. The bus arrives at 7 a.m.; departs at 7:15 a.m.
• 3333 Holly St. The bus arrives at 7:45 a.m.; departs at 8:10 a.m.
• 3325 W. 16th Ave. The bus arrives at 7 a.m.; departs at 7:15 a.m.
• 3480 W. Kentucky Ave. The bus arrives at 7:30 a.m.; departs at 7:45 a.m.

Denver Back to School Fest set for Aug. 8

The City and County of Denver will host its third annual Denver Days Back to School Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Westwood Community Center, 1000 S. Lowell Blvd.

Back to School Fest is an annual, free community event hosted by city agencies, community organizations and the office of the Denver mayor to help local students prepare for the coming school year.

Families attending this year’s celebration can enjoy free resources, services, entertainment and back-to-school support, including:

• More than 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies, available while supplies last
• A backpack personalization station, made possible thanks to Goodwill of Colorado
• Vaccinations provided by Denver Department of Public Health & Environment
• Dental exams facilitated by Kids Choice Dental
• Fresh haircuts by R & R Head Labs
• Ice cream and cookies from Little Man Ice Cream and Tiff’s Treats
• A full day of music and performances presented by Youth on Record
• Family-friendly activities and opportunities to connect with community organizations and city agencies
