Firefighters responding to a report of an illegal burn Saturday morning discovered a deceased person in a tunnel beneath Interstate 25.

Crews were dispatched at about 6:24 a.m. to the area beneath the bridge at East 70th Avenue and Interstate 25 on a report of an illegal burn, according to Adams County Fire Rescue. 

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from a tunnel under the bridge.

During a search of the tunnel beneath I-25, crews located a deceased person and removed the body from the scene, Adams County Fire Rescue said.

Authorities have not released the identity of the person or provided information about the cause and manner of death. It was not immediately clear whether the death was related to the reported fire.

The incident remains under investigation.
