Another scorching day in the Denver area on Monday, with an air quality alert that may impact those with respiratory issues and potential thunderstorms and showers.

The National Weather Service in Boulder said to expect temperatures to reach up to 95 degrees on Monday, even with significant cloud coverage and potential showers. That’s about 3 degrees cooler than the record high for June 27 in Denver, last set in 1964, according to weather service archive data. The average high usually sits at about 90 degrees.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment issued an Ozone Action Day Alert for Denver and most of the Front Range urban corridor from Douglas County in the south to Larimer County in the north and east to Weld, Adams and Arapahoe counties. It is in effect until 4 p.m. Monday.

West winds are expected to blow at 6 to 11 mph, becoming north and northeast by the afternoon, and could gust up to 18 mph on Monday, the weather service said.

Expect potential showers and thunderstorms Monday evening before 9 p.m., and continuing after 9 p.m. through midnight with temperatures dropping to 67 degrees, according to the weather service.

Temperatures are expected to cool slightly on Tuesday, but only by a few degrees. Chances for thunderstorms remain all week, each day through Friday.
