The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that may be linked in a hit-and-run in Littleton.

The incident began shortly before 10:30 p.m. Saturday near South Santa Fe Drive and West Belleview Avenue in Littleton, according to authorities.

Police responded to a hit-and-run crash involving a blue Ford F-150 that allegedly struck multiple vehicles and left the scene. One of the drivers involved called police and reported that he was following the fleeing truck. 

Police instructed the driver to stop following the vehicle and issued a “Be on the Lookout” alert for the Ford.

About four minutes later, Jefferson County deputies were dispatched to a reported shooting.

According to the sheriff’s office, the driver of the Ford reported that someone had fired shots at the truck, striking a male passenger. The driver then pulled into a parking lot where deputies arrived and began lifesaving measures.

The passenger, who suffered a gunshot wound to the head, was taken to a local hospital and later died from his injuries.

Investigators believe the shooting occurred near Grant Ranch Boulevard and West Bowles Avenue.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help as detectives work to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. Authorities are seeking witnesses who traveled along West Bowles Avenue between South Santa Fe Drive and Grant Ranch Boulevard between 10:25 p.m. and 10:35 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators are also encouraging residents and businesses along that corridor to review surveillance footage that may have captured the vehicles involved or any portion of the incident.

On Sunday evening, investigators executed a search warrant at a home in Highlands Ranch. Two individuals were contacted and taken to sheriff’s headquarters for interviews. Both were later released pending further investigation, according to authorities.

No arrests have been announced, and investigators have not released the identity of the homicide victim.
