The body of a missing woman was found in Lake Pueblo on Monday evening following the discovery of her belongings on a cliff above the water.

According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, their agency was alerted to a missing woman in her mid-30s around noon on Monday, with her family reporting that she had not been seen since Sunday evening. An investigation into the situation was launched and her fishing pole and other personal belongings were soon located on the north side of Lake Pueblo State Park on a cliff near the Yucca Flats Campground.

The discovery of these items prompted a search in the boulders and cliffs of the surrounding area, as well as in nearby waters via sonar equipment and an underwater remotely operated vehicle.

At about 5 p.m., the missing woman was located deceased in waters near the Yucca Flats Campground by the underwater vehicle with water in the area described as about 30 feet deep and 77 degrees.

The woman’s identity has not been released, nor has her cause and manner of death. No information was provided related to how the woman may have ended up in the water.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time,” said Joe Stadterman, Lake Pueblo State Park manager. “We appreciate the professionalism and teamwork of our officers and our partner agencies who worked throughout the afternoon to bring this search and recovery operation to a respectful conclusion.”
