According to the Denver Police Department, 110 accident reports came in by 12 PM on Tuesday with more snow on the way and additional accidents likely stacking up. Keep in mind that the heaviest snow will be hitting the area this afternoon into the night – right at rush hour.
It’s time for a lunchtime traffic crash report update, #Denver! As of 12 PM, we’ve had 110 reports. For those of you still braving this weather, stay warm, stay safe, and grabs some food before hitting the road — it won’t do any good to drive hangry. #SlowGoingIsBetterThanNoGoing pic.twitter.com/kBFRIHooQJ — Denver Police Dept. This compares to 300+ Denver metro crashes during the first snowstorm to hit a few weeks ago. With more snow on the way, it’s encouraged that you avoid driving if possible. Several roads around the state already have travel warnings in place with up to 16 inches of snow will likely be landing in some areas. Colorado State Patrol even went as far as to publicly call for employers to care more about the “ safety of your people over profits,” suggesting that businesses close early so that employees could make it home safely.
If you’re out driving, make sure you’re aware of the new traction laws, as well as what traction laws are currently in place. Pack extra layers, food, and water in case you get delayed and proceed with extreme caution.
