A man who drove off the roadway and ran into a tree, multiple bushes and a residence has died, according to a news release from the Fort Collins Police Department.
Law enforcement officials say that shortly before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday a man was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu east at a high speed on Prospect Road in Fort Collins when the vehicle went off the left side of the road and hit a tree, multiple bushes and a residence before stopping.
The driver was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is not being released at this time.
Authorities are currently investigating whether alcohol and drugs contributed a role in the crash, but currently say speed was at least one factor, according to the release.
“Tragedies like this leave a lifelong impact on loved ones, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time,” said FCPS Chief Jeff Swoboda in a media release.
Members of the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team closed East Prospect Road between College Avenue and Stover Street for 6 1/2 hours on Tuesday to investigate the accident.
Law enforcement are seeking to question the driver of an orange or red pickup truck near the intersection of Prospect Road and College Avenue at the time of the accident.
Anyone with information about the accident, or the driver of the truck, are encouraged to contact Officer Drew Jurkofsky at 970-416-2224.
