Hiker stalked by mountain lion escapes with help from Metallica

Hiker Dee Gallant used some quick thinking to thwart a potential mountain lion attack while on the trail in British Columbia. Gallant, 45, “felt a funny feeling” and quickly turned to notice the cat stalking her and her dog.
First, she attempted to call the cat a “bad kitty,” though that got little response. After that, she decided to try a new strategy – playing loud music. According to her, she scrolled through her iPhone and found Metallica’s song “Don’t Tread on Me.” It worked and the cougar retreated.
I was out hiking when I noticed this cougar stalking me. it wasn’t afraid at all just kept staring at me. I started to play Metallica “don’t tread on me” on my iTunes and that’s how I finally scared it off!!

While this incident occurred in Canada, mountain lions are also relatively common in Colorado. According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, up to 7,000 may roam the state. If you happen to encounter one on the trail, make noise, appear as large as possible, maintain eye contact, slowly create distance, and be ready to fight back while protecting your neck.
