Colorado winds can be strong enough to toss porta-potties, flip cars, and launch mattresses into the sky
After a weekend of wild winds, here’s a friendly reminder of just how strong and powerful the winds really are in Colorado.
In 2018, strong winds launched porta-potties high into the air at a park near Denver. In the video seen below, porta-potties can be seen spinning out of control as panicked parkgoers flee from the spilling human waste. The average porta-potty weighs 230 pounds. Shockingly, it wasn’t too heavy for these wild winds.

Colorado is no stranger to wild weather. The March 2019 “bomb cyclone” resulted in the highest winds speeds ever recorded across the state with gusts up to 97 mph in Colorado Springs and 80 mph in Denver.
The winds are so fierce, they’ve even caused multiple vehicles to flip over on highways and roadways across the state.
In a similar windy occurrence, an outdoor movie night ended in disaster after strong winds sent hundreds of inflatable air mattresses flying through the air.
