Fire destroys block of homes in Colorado valley town

A structure fire erupted in the small town of Moffat late Tuesday evening, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

According to a report from the Valley Courier, nearly a full city block of homes were lost in the blaze that broke out at about 4:30 p.m Tuesday, one of which was reportedly the first structure ever built in Moffat. According to the official press release regarding the incident, at least four homes have been lost.

Crews ran out of water while battling the blaze. The small town has no fire hydrants. The fire has been contained but is still burning slowly, according to the Saguache County Sheriff’s Office. Several surrounding agencies responded to the scene of the fire.

Moffat is located in Saguache County, just 40 miles north of Alamosa. The small town has fewer than 200 residents based on data from World Population Review. Here’s a look at where its located on the map:

According to an official press release, no injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time as it remains under investigation.
