Firefighter saves puppy found abandoned on mountain road in Colorado
A puppy was rescued last week by the Archuleta County Wildland Fire Crew after he was found in the middle of a mountain road in Colorado with a punctured lung, 5 broken ribs, and some scars.
According to the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office, crews came across some roadkill while patrolling the area. After moving closer, they were surprised to discover it was not roadkill at all, it was a puppy who had “seemingly given up on life.”

Crews wrapped the puppy up in a fire tee-shirt and named him “Smokey.” As he was transported to the San Juan Vet, he let out a painful growl.

Smokey the puppy is now recovering in his new and happy home with one of the Wildland Firefighters and his “animal-loving wife.” It was a happy ending for everyone!
