Man charged with murder in Golden shooting
William Taft, 49, has been charged in the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Michael Bryan, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday.
Taft was charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, possession of a prohibited large capacity magazine, possession of a defaced firearm, two counts of violation of a protective order and two counts of violent crime.
The shooting happened on Oct. 24 at 5080 McIntyre St. in Golden.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the address, finding Bryan lying on the ground outside of the house. He appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound and was not breathing, deputies said.
Bryan was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Taft lived on the property where Bryan was found, according to the arrest affidavit.
Taft and Bryan were described as acquaintances and are alleged to have been engaged in a physical altercation when Bryan was shot, the DA’s office said.
Taft was advised of the charges on Nov. 3 in Jefferson County Court. He is being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 1.
