In case you missed it, Breckenridge has officially announced that they’ll be extending their ski season through Memorial Day – not just for this season, but for future seasons.

Everything won’t be open during this later portion of the year, but here’s a breakdown of what Breckenridge is hoping for:

“Skiing and riding out of Peak 7, with access to primarily advanced- and expert-level terrain on Peak 8 in Imperial, Horseshoe and North Bowls, accessed by the Independence SuperChair, Imperial Express SuperChair and the TBar Lift while conditions allow.”

The resort’s press release about the extension cites Breckenridge’s high altitude as one of the reasons they’ll be able to successfully stay open late into the year. Breckenridge’s Imperial Superchair takes skiers to a spot where a short hike will put them at 12,998 feet above sea-level.

This year Breckenridge has gotten more than 20 feet of snow, well above last season. This is another reason why a late closing is likely.

Breckenridge typically closes in mid-April. Memorial Day occurs each year on the last Monday of May.
