Where the good news shines

Cheyenne Mountain High graduate Thomas Herholtz shot a final-round 66 Saturday at Walnut Creek Golf Preserve to capture the CGA Amateur Championship title.

Herholtz finished the four-day tournament at 15-under to hold off Colorado School of Mines’ Lukas Taggert by two strokes.

In 2022, Herholtz was part of a Cheyenne Mountain squad that won the CHSAA state title. One of his assistant coaches was Colin Prater, who won this tournament last year.

As the winner of the CGA Amateur, Herholtz will be in the field for the U.S. Amateur set for Aug. 11-17 at Olympic Golf Club in San Francisco.
