Shots fired into car in Denver high school parking lot

Police officer pulled over driver for traffic violation

No one was injured when shots were fired at a car in a North High School parking lot Wednesday afternoon, school officials said.

The Denver Police Department said they were called to investigate a report of shots fired in the area of the school on West Speer Boulevard.

“The west auxiliary parking lot was the random site of an incident involving individuals engaged in criminal activity within our neighborhood,” school officials said in a message to parents Wednesday. “A description matching this vehicle has been associated with two other criminal incidents in the neighborhood and was seen driving through the alley. They randomly fired upon a vehicle parked in the west auxiliary parking lot. Fortunately, no one was harmed in this incident, and no students were in the vehicle or in the lot.”

School officials said there doesn’t appear to be any connection between the shooting and anyone at the school.

The school was put on secure perimeter after the shooting, the message said.

“While this incident is concerning, we want to reassure you that the safety and well-being of our school community remains our top priority,” the message said. “We are working closely with the Denver Police Department and DPS Safety and Security, who are actively investigating the situation. Additionally, we have increased patrols and security measures in and around the school premises to prevent any further incidents.”
