El Paso County Search and Rescue lent a hand to a furry friend in need over the weekend.

According to a Facebook post, EPCSAR rescued an injured dog from a trail off Old Stage Road.

“We are always happy to help our fur friends when they are in need,” the post reads.

EPSCAR didn’t elaborate on the circumstances of the rescue, only shared pictures of the injured dog getting rescued. However, when hiking with a dog, it’s important to plan properly.

Here are some key tips to remember when hiking with your dog:

  • Bring enough food and water for your dog; they’ll need it
  • Try to pick a shaded hike
  • Make sure your dog is properly trained
  • Don’t forget a leash
  • Be aware of water safety – including current and parasites
  • Also, be sure to consider hazards like heat and extreme weather
