A Weld County jury convicted a former girl’s basketball coach Friday on charges related to sexually assaults on three of his players over the course of a decade.
George Sagner, 33, was found guilty of several charges including three counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust as a pattern, one count of sexual assault on a child involving a victim under 15 as a pattern and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to a news release from the 19th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Sagner, who coached at Mead High School and other club teams, faces up to 144 years to life in prison.
The case began after authorities received a Safe2Tell tip in 2021 that said Sagner had an inappropriate relationship with one of his players, according to the release. An investigation into his action’s uncovered sexual relationships with three of his players throughout the past decade, one of which lasted more than two years.
Sagner would sometimes give his victims alcohol and marijuana before sexually assaulting them, according to the release.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Arynn Clark and Deputy District Attorney Raja Salaymeh prosecuted this case.
Sagner’s sentencing hearing before 19th Judicial District Judge Anita Crowther is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2026.
