Dark plumes of smoke rose into the morning sky on Saturday as Denver firefighters responded to a structure fire in an abandoned building that eventually spread to an adjacent building.
Denver Fire Department began fighting the fire on 6th Avenue and Bannock Street around 7 a.m., according to a social media post by the department. The abandoned home — nestled near the Capitol Hill neighborhood — was ablaze, causing firefighters to fear for the structural integrity of the building, according to the post.
The fire began spreading to the adjacent building next door, raising the incident to a two-alarm fire.
Crews quickly knocked the “primary body” of the fire out and were working on hot spots. The entire fire was reported extinguished around 8 a.m.
There were no injuries during the incident. The department will begin investigating the cause of the fire.
