Family offering $10,000 reward in search for missing hunters in Colorado

Two 25-year-old hunters, Andrew Porter and Ian Stasko, remain missing in southern Colorado, with a large-scale search effort underway.

Per a report from CVILLE RIGHT NOW, the men were last known to be hunting off of the Los Pinos trailhead in a part of Conejos County that’s Rio Grande National Forest land.

social media post from Porter’s fiance, Bridget Murphy, that was cited by the CVILLE RIGHT NOW report indicates that the hunters were in unit 81, and while the two had a Garmin satellite-based communication device with them, there has been no response since Thursday.

It is unclear if the two were hunting or hiking at the time they went missing, with family reporting that most of their gear was found in their vehicle. Storms have moved into the area where the men were last known to be in recent days.

In recent news related to the situation, a $10,000 reward is said to be offered for the person who finds the missing men.

Numerous search and rescue groups are involved in the effort.

“These two are very savvy and resourceful, I pray every minute they are trying their best to survive,” reads a message from Murphy. “They did everything right – they just got caught in the wrong sudden circumstances with a plan in mind that involved a quick hunt not all their gear.”

Both men are described as six-foot-tall and physically fit.

The Saguache County Search and Rescue team shared a post from a Facebook page called San Luis Valley Missing Persons about the situation. In that SLVMP post, it’s noted that the Conejos County Sheriff’s Office is using aerial support to scour the area, with search dogs being deployed, as well. That post also noted that horseback riders could be helpful in covering the rugged terrain quickly.

A GoFundMe related to the effort has raised more than $55,000 at time of publishing.

Anyone with information can contact the Conejos County Sheriff’s Office at 719-589-5807.
