Denver Audubon to host “Flocktoberfest” event to celebrate autumn
Denver Audubon is hosting the annual Flocktoberfest festival from Oct. 3 through Oct. 5, and it promises “awe, education, and feathered fun.”
“Flocktober Fest is more than just an event, it’s a celebration of community, conservation, and connection with nature,” Nicole Bopp, executive director of Denver Audubon said in a press release. “The weekend includes live owl demonstrations, a hands-on and family-friendly open house at the Kingery Nature Center with interactive activities, games, and guided exploration, and Flocks and Frocks, a 21+ adult fundraiser.”
The Flocks and Frocks fundraiser will include live music, light appetizers and bird-themed beverages, a bird-inspired costume/fashion contest with prizes, bird oracle readings, and live paintings, including bird-inspired face paintings.
On Oct. 4 and 5, there will be free live owl demonstrations from 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. The family-friendly open house at the Kingery Audubon Nature Center will feature arts and crafts, activities like owl pellet dissection and a bird scavenger hunt, garden tour, story hour with Douglas County Libraries and a birds & Energy demonstration with Martin Ogle.
As well as these activities, Denver Audubon will offer classes and workshops including “Owls of Colorado” with Natalie Vandevuss on Oct. 4 and Walk the Wetlands with Master Birders on Oct. 5.
The last activity is Free Birds & Brews, which will consists of a bird walk along the Platte River, followed by drinks at Table Public House.
