When the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office promised more active enforcement of parking rules during leaf peeping season, they weren’t joking.

Per reporting from the Denver Gazette‘s Jonathan Ingraham and Sage Kelley, a total of 127 parking tickets were issued between July 24 and October 5 for those breaking the rules on Guanella Pass Road. With each ticket costing $87.50, that totals $11,112.50 in fines.

The wave of tickets followed the installation of ‘No Parking’ signs along the route this past summer, with officials stressing that following parking rules was essential for traffic flow and safety. Failure to park in designated areas can also have an impact on emergency responses, as large first responder vehicles can have a difficult time navigating and parking in spaces where there’s not much room.

It’s also worth noting that several vehicles were towed during the aforementioned time frame, too. Fees related to towings were not disclosed.
